Barbara (Wojcenowicz) Fisher

Barbara Ann Fisher, 89, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully in the presence of her children on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Ebeid Hospice Center of Sylvania. Barbara was born on June 24, 1936, in Flint, MI to Allan B. and Eva M. Harper. She was the third child of four and the only girl. She and her brothers shared mutual adoration and friendship throughout their lives. As a natural caregiver from an early age, Barb–as she was better known–passionately pursued nursing and graduated in 1956 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her career at Flower Hospital, where she worked for nine years, followed by 30 years at the Toledo Clinic, where she retired in 1999. Barb married Wendell Jacobson in 1956, they had three children together, and were married for ten years. In 1967 she married Jerome S. Wojcenowicz, with whom she shared 29 years of marriage until his passing in January 1997. In 2002 she married Eugene J. Fisher, who sadly passed away in May of the same year. Barb later met Ken Symington and was his devoted companion until his death in 2017. Barb’s devotion and nurturing nature extended beyond her career and was the deepest when her loved ones were the focus. She looked after her mother for twelve years, and she provided steadfast support for her husbands and her companion during their individual battles with cancer. Her greatest joy centered on spending quality time with her family, especially her five grandchildren. She frequently entertained friends and family in her home, where she relished feeding everyone and playing cards or board games. Summer days were filled with pool parties, tending her flower garden and doing yard work. She took great delight in decorating her home for every holiday, each with its own traditions. Halloween involved carving pumpkins and turning the front yard into a cemetery. At Christmas she meticulously constructed an elaborate Snow Village display and beautifully decorated her Christmas trees. Her zeal and preparation for Easter festivities nearly equaled Christmas, complete with plastic egg-adorned shrubs, pastel baskets hidden for the grandchildren, and an enormous feast featuring ham and all the family favorites. Fourth of July celebrations were filled with family, food, fun, and an abundance of fireworks. Countless strikes and spares were thrown in her 40 years as an avid bowler; her “follow-through” evident as she served as president of three separate bowling leagues during this time. She also served as president of the Mothers’ Clubs at both Hiawatha and Trilby Elementary Schools, enjoyed being a Brownie leader for a troop at Trilby, and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary #197. She was a dedicated member of Augsburg Lutheran Church for 40 years and then with Grace Lutheran Church for 20 years, where she participated in Ruth Circle and the Eucharistic Ministry. Barb is survived by her children, Lynne Jacobson, Wendell (Julie) Jacobson, Laurie (Jim) Jeszke; stepdaughter, Robin (David) Dudley; grandchildren, Erin Jacobson, Rachel Jacobson, Lindsay Sharma, Christian Jeszke, Natalie Jeszke; step-grandson, Michael (Emily) Gorski; three great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands, Jerome and Eugene; parents; three brothers; stepdaughter, Kathy Gorski; and step-granddaughter, Kristin Obarski. Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 23rd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania, Toledo, Ohio. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. held at Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe Street, Toledo. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides at Kingston Perrysburg and Sylvania, as well as to the nurses at Flower Hospital and Ebeid Hospice of Sylvania.
