David E. Whipple

David E. Whipple, 76, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Toledo on November 18, 1949, to Frederick and Kathryn (Fisher) Whipple. He married Deborah A. Olmstead in 1971. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1967. He served in the Vietnam War in the US Army. He worked for Ohio Bell (AT&T) for 43 years where he retired in 2011. He and Deb are lifelong parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa. He attended all his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting and school events and treasured having his family together for the holidays. He loved remodeling the family’s houses, constantly making updates and doing all the work himself with Deb. You never saw one without the other. In the last few years, they worked together volunteering at OLPH on the maintenance team helping with any project the church needed and received a volunteer award in 2025. His grandkids would often joke that if grandpa can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed. Dave is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah; children, David, Jr., Dana Zeller, and Denise Zellers; grandchildren, Tim, Nick (fiancé Irene Sauerwein), Sam and Mary Zeller, Drew (Lexie), Melanie (fiancé Connor Stevens) and Claire Whipple; brother, Michael (Colleen) Whipple; special family, Bradley (Kaitlyn), Lukas, Lydia and Lincoln Klopping; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald, Sr.; in-laws, Wilson (Mary) Olmstead; brother-in-law, John Olmstead; and nephew, Ronald Whipple, Jr. The family would like to express a special thank you to nurses Matt and Ahmad, Drs. Kate Szymanski, Danae Hamouda, Merisha Hadziahmetovic and their staff at UTMC and Dana Cancer Center, as well as Wendy and Alice at Hospice of Northwest Ohio - Ebeid for all the loving care they gave to Dave. Friends and family are invited to visit at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, where the rosary service will begin at 7:00pm. Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, UTMC or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
