Dolores Elizabeth Darr

Darr Dolores Elizabeth Dolores Elizabeth (Richter) Darr, 100, formerly of Toledo passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015. She was born June 11, 1915, to Louis and Edith Richter of Akron, OH. In 1921, she moved to Fort Dodge, IA, where she graduated from Sacred Heart School. They returned to Akron, OH and Dolores worked in the office of General Tire & Rubber, as a stenographer, bookkeeper and typist. Dolores met William M. Darr, from Oak Harbor, OH, and married him in August, 1952. They moved to Toledo where she attended St. Catherine of Siena and Blessed Sacrament Parishes. Dolores was also a bookkeeper for the Toledo Barber School for 4 years. She was active at the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center, Blessed Sacrament Altar Guild and Bereavement Choir. Dolores was a very gifted homemaker. Her talents included cake decorating, china painting, singing and playing the piano. She and her husband had traveled to Europe and many of the states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Dolores was very active in pinochle groups and played into her nineties. She lived in her own home until she was 98 years old. She then moved into Orchard Villa, following a stroke. Survivors include her cousins, Bill and Elaine Bullock and her sister, Elaine Wagner, of Akron, OH; her cousins, the Antoine Family from Minneapolis, MN. She also leaves sisters-in-law, Monica Steindam, Margaret Steindam and Carolyn (Darr) Baldwin of Oak Harbor, OH. Mary Angela and Tim Stapleton of Oregon, OH have been taking care of Dolores needs for many years. She also leaves many special nieces, nephews and special friend, Mary Van Dyke. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband. The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard Villa, who were so kind and caring and also the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio and her nurse, Tabitha. You are all exceptional. Dolores celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends. Hospice of Northwest Ohio provided additional entertainment the week of her birthday along with Orchard Villa. Thank you for your love and support. Friends and family are invited to visit from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday (today), in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads), where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial, at 11 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2240 Castlewood Drive (at Bellevue Road).
