Dorothy Mae Waldeck

Dorothy Frey Waldeck, formerly from Wauseon, where she was in the retail business for over 30 years, passed away peacefully at Manor of Perrysburg on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Dorothy and her husband, Roger, who preceded her in death, owned and operated Waldeck's Variety Store, The Grey Door, The Loft and The Shutter Room. At age 70 after selling the retail businesses, Dorothy tried her hand at real estate with Century 21 in Wauseon. Dorothy was a very astute business woman. She was energetic, creative, very generous, loved to play bridge and always had a delightful sense of humor. In retirement she spent many hours doing arts and crafts for resale. Over the years Dorothy enjoyed being a member of The Shakespeare Club, several bridge clubs, Christ United Methodist Church in Wauseon; Epworth Methodist Church in Toledo; Valleywood Golf Club; Ironwood Golf Club and the Toledo Women's District Golf Association. One of the highlights of each year was her buying trip to Chicago to find merchandise for the stores. Most of all Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her husband of 60 years and their children and grandchildren. Surviving Dorothy are her daughters: Karen (John) Scales, Hinsdale, IL, and Josie ( Bob) Freeman, Toledo; grandchildren: Chad (Laura) Scales, Atlanta, GA; Douglas (Michelle) Scales, Bristow, VA; Kristy (Dan) Craine, Denver, CO; Bo Freeman, Toledo, OH ; and Sarah (Erik) Fritzsche, Indianapolis, IN; great grandchildren: Natalie and Catherine Scales, Aidan and Patrick Craine, Grant Scales, and Elsa Fritsche; sisters: Lucille Nofziger and Shirley Wyse ; sister-in-law: Lorraine Frey; and many special nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Ernest Frey and Maurice “Mose” Frey preceded her in death as did her parents, Lavina and Lucas (L.B.) Frey. Family and friends are invited to visit from 9:30-11 a.m., Friday October 22, 2010, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH (between Secor and Douglas) where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment in Union Cemetery, Wauseon, OH, where a graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Family suggests any memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Dorothy's family wishes to thank the staff at West Park Place and Manor of Perrysburg for their exceptional loving care over the many years that Dorothy was with them.
