E. Carolyn "Bobbie" Mobley

E. Carolyn Amelia Merle Mobley “Bobbie”, 101 years old, was called home to heaven peacefully on April 14, 2026. She was born in Toledo, OH on July 11, 1924, to Ralph and Bertha (Marquardt) Merle. The family moved to Genoa, OH where Carolyn graduated from Genoa Clay High School. After high school, Carolyn worked at Camp Perry Army Depot where, at 19, she met her future husband, James L. Mobley. It was “love at first sight” according to Mrs. Mobley. Carolyn then attended Stautzenberger Business College for two years, graduating after a two-year secretarial course while waiting for her future husband to return from WWII. They married on March 2, 1946. William and Daniel were born on Army bases and then they settled in Toledo, OH, where they raised their four children. Carolyn went back to work in 1961 at Jobst Institute on Miami St. in Toledo, where she was the executive secretary to Carolyn Jobst Gottfried for 16 years. The company made the first version of what is now a support stocking. The Jobst Tower at ProMedica Toledo Hospital was later named for Conrad Jobst who invented the elastic support stockings. In 1987, Carolyn left the Toledo area to make sunny South Florida her home, where she lived for over 30 years. She worked as a food demonstration lady at the local Publix grocery store for many years. She retired at age 96. At the store, she made many acquaintances and stated that she “watched some of the children grow up” as the families shopped week after week. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daniel M. Mobley (KIA – Vietnam), making her a Gold Star Mother; her beloved husband, “Jimmy” Mobley; brothers, Arthur, Clifford, Johnny and Ernest Merle; sisters, Bernice, Adeline, and Geraldine Merle. She is survived by her sons, William and David; daughter, Diane Mobley Kibbey; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents of Alpine House of Toledo and Care 360 Hospice who made this difficult time more bearable with their outstanding care and love. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 3:00pm – 8:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
