George Franklin "Papa George" McCormack

George Franklin McCormack of Toledo Ohio passed away Monday morning October 1st, 2018. George was in the care of St. Anne’s Cancer Center, ProMedica Hospice, his loving family and trusted aid, Kim Abbas.Born March 1st, 1933 to William and Lola McCormack, George was the last surviving child of 11 siblings; brothers: Carl, Earl, and David McCormack and sisters: Dollie Corbett, Dana Ryan, Mildred Schaefer, Mable Johnson, Madeline Lerch, Henrietta Glogig, and Grace Babcock. George attended LaGrange Elementary School and graduated from Woodward High. He was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a proud member of the American Legion CWV Logsdon-Walla Post 639. He was a parishioner of St Adalbert’s Catholic Church where he served as past President of the St Adalbert Holy Name Society and past President of Toledo Area Council of Catholic Men. His employment career included: Libbey Owens Ford, B.R. Baker Co., Russell’s Formal Wear and Jacobson’s at the Franklin Park Mall. George retired after 20 years in 1995 as the Assistant Store Manager. He later worked fours years with Cavalear Realty before retiring to Florida with the love of his life, his wife of 60 years Marlene (Komosinski) McCormack. George and Marlene are survived by their children; Shari (Greg Norman) McCormack of Yakama WA, Michael (Debbie) McCormack of Toledo OH, Debbie (Greg) Schaefer of Toledo OH, James (Sharon) McCormack of Toledo OH, George (Lou Ann) McCormack of Lansing MI, and John (Christine) McCormack of Sylvania OH. George’s family was his pride and joy and he cherished spending time with his 17 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren. Later in life George enjoyed golfing and watching Harry Young Builder’s Baseball. Family and friends are invited to celebrate George’s life: Visitation will be held on Friday October 5th, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm (Rosary @ 7:00pm) at Ansberg-West Funeral Home 3000 W Sylvania Ave, Toledo, OH 43613. Mass will be held on Saturday October 6th, 2018 at 11:00 am @ St John the Baptist Catholic Church 5153 N Summit St Toledo OH 43611 with burial immediately following at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
