Janice Joan Emmitt

Janice Joan (Michalak) Emmitt, age 79, died Friday, June 9, 2023, at Otterbein Senior Living, Pemberville, OH. Janice was born December 6, 1943, and was a lifelong resident of Toledo, OH. She was the daughter of the late Thaddeus (Ted) Michalak and Charlotte (Zajac) Michalak. Janice graduated in 1961 from Whitmer High School and attended Davis Business College with an emphasis in business and secretarial courses. She was employed at several area businesses and schools as a secretary or “girl Friday”, to include the Jeep Corporation. She received high praises from her employers for her adept secretarial skills, intelligence, enthusiasm and efficiency. While working at Jeep, she met the love of her life, Paul James (Jim) Emmitt. They were married November 6, 1971, at St. Adalbert’s Church, Toledo. They were married for 38 years before his passing on March 27, 2010. Janice’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, sewing, needlework and crocheting. She enjoyed attending extended family gatherings and social events. Janice was also a longtime volunteer at The Manor House, which she truly enjoyed. She was a docent during the holiday tours and other events during the year and loved serving tea in the solarium. Janice was a member of several area Methodist Churches to include Faith United Methodist Church, Luckey, OH, Collingwood U.M.C., Hope U.M.C., and Epworth U.M.C. Survivors include Brother and Sister-in-laws, Perry & Judy Emmitt, Custar, Nancy (Emmitt) & John Jacobs, Luckey, Aunt Grace (Emmitt) Baker and Nephew James Baker, St. Genevieve, MO; Nieces, Jane (Emmitt) Phillips (Jack), Jennifer (Jacobs) LeBar (James), Kathy (Jacobs) Barrow (Frank); Nephews, Jeff Emmitt, Perry Emmitt, Sam Jacobs (Kelli); 6 Great-Nieces, 3 Great-Nephews, 6 Great-Great-Nieces, and 4 Great-Great-Nephews, and several cousins. She is also survived by special friend Randall Davis whom she met while volunteering at The Manor House. They enjoyed conversation, dining out, attending church and volunteering together. The family would like to give a special thank you to Ashanti Hospice and the staff of Otterbein Senior Living. Ansberg-West Funeral Home, Toledo, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home with funeral services immediately following. Graveside service will be at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Pastor Peter Johnston, Faith U.M.C., will be the Officiant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Janice’s name to The Manor House c/o Toledo Metroparks.
