Julianne (Wall) Etzel

Julianne Wall Etzel passed away on July 23, 2024, after a long illness. She was born on November 30, 1928, to Clara and Raymond Wall. (There was a fire in their home the day she was born, her mother asked her father why he was wearing new clothes when they had a new baby to feed!) Julie and her only (older) brother, Ray were close throughout their lives. She graduated from Scott High School in 1946. Julie married William Etzel and together they raised 6 children. She was kept busy with her kids’ school activities at Rosary Cathedral and Feilbach grade schools and Central Catholic High School. She was active in the Rosary Cathedral Alter Sodality. She began volunteering at Camp Cricket, the summer day camp program for physically disabled children. This became a long-term commitment as she rose to become President of the Auxiliary, coordinating fundraising for the Toledo Society for the Handicapped. She had wonderful groups of friends throughout her life including the Royal order of the Mystic Knights of the Sea, Coaches and their families at Rosary Cathedral, and good friends from Wicklow Woods. Her favorite place was her cottage at Round Lake. She often went there in the middle of the week by herself or with a friend or two just to enjoy a day at the lake. Julie often joked that she lived within 2 miles of Central Avenue all her life. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, Joe; brother, Ray Wall; daughter-in-law, Linda; niece, Jane Gensler; and grandson, Will. She is the last of her generation. Others that have passed include JoAnn and Art Ach, Ellen Wall, Fr. Raymond Etzel, and David Etzel. Julie is survived by her children, Andy Etzel, Lynn (Tim) Holihan, Rob (Kelly) Etzel, Tom (Alice) Etzel and Jim (Becky O) Etzel; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Kingston Sylvania and Otterbein Monclova for their wonderful care of Julie. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 9:30am – 10:30am at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd., where a Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10:30am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity in Julie’s name.
