Leroy Wesley Wickerham

Leroy Wesley Wickerham, born June 1, 1925, crossed over to the shores of Heaven on July 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye and son Timothy. He is survived by his sons, Terry (Judy), Thomas (Patricia); daughters, Laura (Michael), Melissa, and Rose; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a child, Wes was educated in the arts. At an early age he could play piano and was skilled in dancing. As a young man, he excelled in all sports of his day: baseball, bowling, golfing, and to a lesser extent, football. From his high school graduation at Macomber as a “Mac Man” he went directly into the Navy in WWII. While in the South Pacific he received 11 Silver Stars and 2 Bronze Stars for naval engagements with Japanese forces. After the service, he earned his general electrical contractor license and became a very successful electrician that was well respected by the electrical community. Post war, he met and married his wife of 74 years, Faye, whom he loved beyond any measure or words could ever describe. Together, they built a house, made it a home, and raised 5 children. In lieu of “if these walls could talk…”, Wes’ children have elected to do the talking about the man that built those walls, Dad. “Few could match all the abilities and accomplishments of my Father as the leader in his love and devotion to his family, service to his country, and his unfailing love of God in his 99 years of life. In his final days, knowing that his time was near, he continued to make those around him smile, give us hope, wisdom, and his love of all he knew. I know his accomplishments here on earth will continue in Heaven and make both better places. We love you, Dad”. “Dad was a Christ centered man and instructed his family in Christ centered ways. If you would let him, he was always prepared to preach, and would, even if you didn’t let him”. “Dad was a man of integrity, honesty, a devoted husband and father, and a man that was faithful to God. He was always there for us, ready to listen, offer advice, and help where he could. He will be greatly missed, but we know he is in Heaven with Mom, telling stories, fixing something, or working with God on rewriting the original manuscript. We love you, Dad”. “When I was a little girl, Dad used to “walk” his pointer and middle fingers on my arm and say, ‘here comes those two guys’. I would always giggle and get a big kick out of it. Dad was taking the time to focus on me and our father-daughter relationship. Back then, it was just a silly little game, but now I realize just how precious I was to him and how blessed I was to have him for my father”. “A toast to my best friend and buddy: the past three years have been a great adventure. From major league ball games, cheese in Amish country, to Barney Miller here at home. I cherish each moment we were together. I love and miss you, Dad! Cheers”. In addition to a lifetime love of God, family, and country, Wes traveled extensively including a winter home in Florida, belonged to countless golf leagues, bowling leagues, and Bible studies. He loved family get-togethers (big or small) and would often relay stories of the old family to the new family. He is cherished by the three generations he inspired and will be known and admired by those to come. We return him to the Lord feeling that 99 years was somehow not enough yet more than we could have ever asked for.
