Maria Magdalena Hinojosa

Maria “Marie” Magdalena Hinojosa, of Toledo, OH passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, September 17, 2017. She was born November18, 1941, in Mercedes, TX to Ventura and Alejo Cavazos. She was a graduate of Clay High School. In 1961, she married Anjel Hinojosa. Marie was employed with the family owned restaurants, beginning in 1955, at Loma Linda’s, Carmels, Connie Barron’s and Venny’s Hayloft. She opened her own restaurant, Magdalena’s, in 1998, with her children. That was her proudest accomplishment. To say Marie enjoyed shopping with her daughters and granddaughters would be an understatement, she loved it! Another activity that brought great joy to her was gardening and traveling to warm beaches via big boats. Her passion for cooking the most delicious Mexican dishes for her family could only be rivaled by the love she had for her Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State Buckeyes. Everyone who had the privilege to know Marie was fully aware that she was a righteous and God-fearing woman, with unmistakable class and style. Her beautiful smile and sense of humor was always more than enough to brighten your day. To really appreciate the hard work ethic, instilled in Marie by her parents, was to work by her side on a busy Friday night, in the kitchen of any of the families’ Mexican restaurants, including her own. On display was the true art of cooking Tex-Mex cuisine that she in turn instilled in her children. Above all she was the very best mother who loved her family with all her heart, truly a virtuous woman. Marie is survived by her children, David Hinojosa, Delia (Dan) Spoerl, Dawn (Todd) Speaker and Dan Hinojosa; her loving pets, Lucy and Ruby; her three grandchildren, Lila Sarnecky, Danielle Spoerl and Derrick Spoerl. She also has four great-grandchildren, Alexa, Eddie, Ethan and Alayna; her sister, Delores King and her brother, Arturo Cavazos. She was preceded in death by husband, Anjel Hinojosa; father, Alejo Cavazos; mother, Ventura Cavazos and sisters, Connie Barron, Aurora Baldwin, and Adela Mundt. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 12 noon, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads).
