Mary H. Mikac

Mary H. “Tootie” Mikac, 92, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Goerlich Center on October 10, 2016. The last surviving child of 10 for Andrew and Maude Toshie, Tootie was born in Beauty, KY 1924, and graduated from Mason High School. Her nickname of Tootie was given to her by her Father and continued throughout her life and known to friends and family by that name. After High School, she and her sister moved to Cleveland to work in the Bendix factory during the war. That is where she met the love of her life Frank, as he returned from World War II. They married and settled in Medina, Ohio before leaving and moving to Toledo, where they lived for over 60 years. While in Toledo, Tootie worked for the SSKressge Company and retired from the Kmart Corporation. In retirement, Mary, enjoyed spending time with her husband and family on Lake Erie hunting for beautiful sunsets, fishing spots on their boat “Tosha”, and visiting their growing list of family and friends around the country. Tootie, always a devoted wife, grandmother and great-grandmother enjoyed so many things in life, especially doting on those that she knew and loved. It was not unusual for her to open her doors for those in need, whether to receive a word of encouragement, or a place to stay, rest, and recover. She will be remembered for many things including her strong work ethic, competitive spirit, family loyalty, fabulous cooking without recipes, homemade fudge, love of gardening, and of course “her love of the Cleveland Indians”. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Frank J. Mikac and survived by daughters, Kimberly F. Ball, Kathy (Burl) A. Steele, of Toledo and F. Timothy (Patti) Mikac of Upper Arlington, Ohio; 8 lovely grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The Mikac family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Goerlich Alzheimer's Care Clinic for their devotion to Mom and previously for Dad. The Care Mom and Dad received through the staff’s efforts will be forever remembered and treasured. Friends are invited to visit from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Secor and Douglas Roads), where a "Sharing of Memories" will be held at 7 p.m. A Prayer service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at Ansberg-West. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
