HERNANDEZ Mercedes Mercedes Hernandez, 85, of Helena, Ohio passed away at the Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Lifestyle Community, on Monday, January 5, 2015. She was born September 18, 1929, in Martindale, Texas, the fifth of eleven children to Amado Sr. and Esperanza (nee Acosta) Garcia of Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico. She had a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and prayed the rosary daily. She had a love for flowers. Although, she was in a nursing home, she still took care of her plants. Mercedes was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, The Rosary Alter Society and St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Toledo. Mercedes is survived by her children; Teresa (Luis) Linares, Toledo, OH, Nora (Alberto) Morado, Lathrop, CA, Amanda Sirmeyer, Fostoria, OH and Esperanza (Michael) Williams, Circleville, OH; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, whom she was especially proud of. Also surviving are her siblings; Delores (Alfred) Tolento, Lake Whales, FL, Angela (Ray) Ramirez, Joseph Garcia, Amado Jr. "Jake" (Elaine) Garcia, all from Burgoon, OH, Manuel Garcia, Columbus, OH, Augustine (Jean) Garcia, Tiffin, OH, brothers-in-law Sisto Reyna and Alfred Clinger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Luis Enrique Hernandez, parents, Amado Sr. and Esperanza (Acosta) Garcia, brother, Pedro Garcia, sister, Maria De Jesus Reyna, Teresa Clinger, Micaela Garcia and sisters-in-law Mary Garcia and Anita Garcia. The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community, Pemberville, OH. Friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Prayers will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, from the funeral home, followed the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 865 State Route 635, Helena, OH, 43435, with Father Francisco Molina officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Millersville, OH. Contributions, in memory of Mercedes, may be made to St. Peter & Paul Church, 738 S. St. Clair Street, Toledo, OH 43609.
