Mona Kathryn (Jewell) Nicely

Mona Kathryn (Jewell) Nicely passed away, Sunday, August 13, 2023, Oregon, OH. She was born August 27, 1928, to Cyril Jewell and Marie (Kelly) (Jewell) Moss, in Bellaire Ohio. Mona graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo and soon after she married Richard H. Nicely. They lived in West Toledo where they started a family. While raising five children, she enjoyed bowling with other family members and had a love for dancing. Mona was gifted with a talent of crochet making many keepsakes from table dollies to a full-size dining room tablecloth and beautiful framed embroidered pieces. Mona worked for Washington Local Schools at Meadowvale Elementary in the cafeteria while attending evening school at Davis College on a state grant learning data entry and office skills. She was later employed as a key punch operator what was then AP Parts retiring after 20 years in 1995. During her career and, eventually, a single parent and homeowner, she enjoyed tackling anything she could in home repairs. As money was saved, she took great pride in doing home improvements, making her home something to be very proud of. During Mona's retirement years, she spent more time in the garden creating beautiful flower beds and a vegetable garden. The love for pretty flowers and her style of floral decorating was evident and beautifully done throughout her home. As her children grew and started their careers and families, she kept them close at heart always with a picture wall and shelves filled with pictures of their families and their accomplishments. She is survived by her children, Patrick (Barbara) Nicely, Richard (Esmeralda) Nicely, Sheila (Michael) Deitrickson, Karen Nicely, James (Dee) Nicely; eleven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Moser and Nancy Koszegi. She was preceded in death by her Mom, sisters and a brother. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 11:00am – 2:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., where a memorial service will begin at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maumee Valley Safe-A-Pet or Veterans Matter.
