Thomas B. Best Jr.

Thomas “Tom” B. Best, Jr., 66, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Toledo on Good Friday, April 17, 2023, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born April 22, 1956, to Thomas Best, Sr. and Arlene (Langel). Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1974. He went on to marry the love his life, Susan M. Tattersall on November 22, 1978. Tom worked and retired from Buckeye News Co. He was a proud Teamster. He was a US Army Veteran who was honored to serve his country. Tom loved woodworking, antiquing, and refinishing antique furniture. He was a classic car enthusiast, a die-hard Cleveland Browns and NASCAR fan, however, nothing brought him as much joy as his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. Anyone who knew him would describe him as the kindest, most loving man with a generous heart and the softest soul. Anytime you were in his presence, he made you feel special. Tom never met a strange that didn't become a friend. He always kept us laughing with his stories and his sense of humor. Tom is survived by his wife, Susan (Tattersall) Best; mother-in-law, Audrey Claudette Tattersall; children, Shannon (Joel) Michaels and Thomas Best, III; grandchildren, Michael Cicerella, Jr., Mia and Mallory Michaels; siblings, Laura “Byron” (David) Walker, Daniel Best, Susan Best, Audrey (Tonie) Tattersall; lots of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Jim Oldiges, Charles McGhee and Harold Kennedy. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen M. Best-Rassuli, PhD.; niece, Lili Noel Rassuli; brothers, Timothy and Michael Best; and father-in-law, John H. Tattersall. The family would like to thank St. Vincent Medical Center and the third floor ICU and Life Connections for the wonderful care they provided Tom. Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. where military honors will begin at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held Monday, April 24, 2023, at 11:00am at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
