Walter Armstrong

Walter Armstrong, 81, of Toledo, passed away Sunday August 15, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Toledo. He was born August 2, 1929 in Mansfield, OH and was a graduate of Mansfield Madison High School. He moved to Toledo in 1960. Walter was an assistant manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance, where he retired after 35 years. Following retirement he was a school bus driver for Blessed Sacrament and retired twice from driving. Walter and Alice spent part of their retirement years in Florida, along with their dog, Victoria He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church where he served on the usher team for 30 years. Some of Walter's hobbies include, bowling, fishing, playing cards, billiards, camping, NASCAR and traveling. He loved attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events including, football games, baseball games, concerts and gymnastics. Walter loved people and never met anyone he did not like. He always had your back and was the life of the party. He was the rock and firm foundation of the family. Walter left the struggles of the world to enter eternal glory. He gone from us, but will be in paradise forever. Walter was a loving husband, father, and great provider for his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Armstrong; sons, Larry (Ruth Ann) Armstrong, Tim (Deb) Armstrong, Bruce (Kathy) Armstrong, and Mike (Allison) Armstrong; daughter, Judy (Joel) Baker; grandchildren, Laura (Mike), David (Ann), Jeni (Greg), Matt, Kristin, Heather (Brian), Jeremy (Keris), Bryan, Jessica, Justin, Mike Jr., Ashley and Nicholas. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Braden and Daniel; brother, Bruce (Irma) Armstrong and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Cox. Friends are invited to visit from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to extent a special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Northwest for the wonderful care given to Walter.
