Alexander Tokles, “Mr.T”, 98, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away, Sunday December 13, 2020 at Flower Hospital. He was born December 09, 1922 to Esik and Marianthe Tokles in Toledo. A graduate of Waite High School, he attended the University of Toledo for three years in pre-med then enlisted in the Army, serving in WWII. Alex married Mary Joyce Pontius August 27, 1946, they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. At a young age he worked at the family business, The General Store. Upon returning from the service he rejoined the family business that became E&T Tokles, Inc. There he designed and equipped many of Toledo’s locally owned restaurants. He branched out on his own in 1980 to form his own design and consulting business, Alex Tokles et al. Even in his last few years he was working on designs for local Toledoans. During his years of designing, Alex joined his cousins at The Ideal Hot Dog to get a real taste for the operational side of the industry. In addition he was thrilled to help his son Nick form Nick & Jimmy’s and be a mentor in it’s success. He was a member of the Toledo Exchange Club, the Northwest Ohio and National Restaurant Association, receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award and professional member of the Food Service Consultant Society International (FCSI). He was a member of the Greek Community, where he served as a Parish Council President and was a past president of the local AHEPA. Alex had so many personal and professional relationships that were special to him. He listened to what people had to say, remembered who you were, and definitely remembered your name. But most of all he shared a memory with you. He loved his family, friends and community and devoted his life and career in helping others meet their dreams. He will be greatly missed Alex is survived by his daughter, Maryann (Mike) Condon; grandchildren, Sarah, Matt, Marc and Michael Condon; sister, Irene Foussianes and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son, Nick and brother, Eustace. Special thanks to staff at Sunset Village, especially his favorite Brandy. Friends are invited to visit Friday from 10:00am to 11:00am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral (facial covering and social distancing strictly enforced), due to mandated occupancy restrictions, private services will follow. Interment in Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
