Carl E. Anderson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carl E. Anderson, 87, passed away on July 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 22, 1921 to Ernst and Esther Anderson, he was a lifelong Toledo resident. Carl served during World War II as a radio operator in the Army's 383rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, with whom he and his family deeply enjoyed annual reunions. After returning from the war, he attended evening classes at the University of Toledo while employed full-time, and worked as an engineer for General Motors. He retired in 1982 after 37 years. Carl was a member in St. Pius X parish of Toledo since 1962, serving many years as an usher. His embrace of life and love of children and pets will long be remembered by family and friends. Carl took his family on annual vacations exploring every corner of the United States, and even in his last years seldom missed his annual trip to Walt Disney World. He is survived by daughters Jan (Marv) Blackburn and Judy (Gary) Sadler, sons Robert and Eric (Mary), grandchildren Sean (Brandi) Mulherin and Kelly Barrie, six great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Helen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers John and Harry and loving wife Margaret of 50 years. Friends may visit the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. on Monday, July 20 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. There will be a memorial mass of the resurrection on Tuesday, July 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church. Memorial contributions in Carl's name may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Pius X parish. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, for the wonderful care given Carl and his family.
