Clara D. Mitchell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Clara Mitchell, 73, of Toledo, went to be with the Lord, on August 2. 2008, at The Toledo Hospital. She was born in, Lawrence, MI, on April 7, 1935, to Oland and Norma (Taplin) Copeland. She was a 1953 graduate of Lawrence High School. She married the love of her life, Terrance J. Mitchell, on February 5, 1955, and they were married for 37 years, before he went to heaven on January 9, 1993. During their marriage, along with their own children, they opened up their home to a total of 11 foster children, over a seven year span. Clara retired in 2003 from Masonite Door Fab, after 17 years of service. She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church for 34 years and was an active helper in the Awana Program for many of those years. She was an avid NASCAR fan with her loyalty belonging to Jeff Gordon and she loved watching the Detroit Pistons. Clara also enjoyed camping, reading, knitting and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Lewis and Edith Mitchell; brother and sister-in-law, William and Ethel Copeland; brothers-in-law, Ernest McNees, Richard Pumfrey and Charles Willett; nephew, Randy McNees and great-grandson, Dylan Heuerman. Clara is survived and deeply missed by her son, Gregory Mitchell of Toledo; daughters, Terry (Glen) Granger of Torrance, CA, Miriam (Al) Szykowny of Toledo and Pamela (Robert) Spencer of Maumee; grandchildren, Rebecca (Neal Bomeli) Orrin, Michael Orrin Jr., Naomi (Steven) Heuerman, Robert (Annette) Decker II, Rusty Szykowny, Stephen Anderson, Aimee Anderson, Markie Anderson and John Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kali, Carter and Cody Bomeli, Ashley, Zach, Alana and Keerstin Heuerman, Kaden and Bryson Decker; sister, Virginia McNees, and many nieces and?nephews.? Family and friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 W. Laskey Road, Toledo, OH. Pastor Bruce Snyder will officiate. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
