Dorothy Sue Whitacre

August 3, 1922 - June 9, 2010

Dorothy Sue Whitacre, 87, joined her Lord and Savior in eternity, on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Dorothy was born on August 3, 1922, to John and Diana (Reidling) Sandifer and was raised by her mother and step-father, Cecil Cole. She married Clinton Whitacre on September 10, 1941 and together they had two children, Carol and Lesley. Dorothy was a wonderful mother who made the decision to stay at home and raise her children, then at the age of 44 pursued her own secretarial career at Owen-Illinois. She retired after 17 years, but even in retirement she enjoyed staying in contact with those she worked with at O-I, through their Retirement Club. Her involvement with the Bible Study Fellowship in Toledo was as a participant to graduation of the program. She was also a member of Christian Fellowship Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton, in 1970 and more recently by longtime friend, Robert LeMaster, in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (John) Glendening; son, Lesley (Lynn) Whitacre; former daughter-in-law, Linda Bennett; grandchildren, Roger (Julie) Whitacre, Russell (Wendi) Whitacre, Vincent Whitacre, Billy (Robin) Whitacre, Bryan Whitacre and Sarah (Erik) Fritzsche; great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie (Mike Lucas) Ashleigh, Steffanie, Sabrina, Aaron, Danielle, Dillon, Aiden, Logan Whitacre, Elsa Fritzsche and great-great grandson, Troy. Friends are invited to visit, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service, honoring the life of Dorothy, at 11 a.m. Elder Earl Ensign will officiate. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Erie West Hospice or Christian Fellowship Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Erie West Hospice and the Darlington House, for the wonderful care given to Dorothy.
