Evelyn M. Whitaker

February 11, 1921 - August 27, 2017

Evelyn M. Whitaker, 96, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017. She was born in Indianapolis on February 11, 1921 to Katherine and Frederick Marling. She was a graduate of Tech High School, Beauty College, and was retired from J. C. Penny. At her death, Evelyn was the longest standing member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where she was involved in countless organizations and committees throughout the years. She also was a former member of The Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn was a talented homemaker who added multiple artistic flairs and talents to her family’s household. She and her late husband, Raymond, loved to travel and did so extensively all over the world. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, bowling, and she was an avid animal lover. She is survived by her loving family, children, Craig Whitaker, Jeffrey (Sharon) Whitaker, Janice (James) Kirk; grandchildren, Julie Whitaker, Jeffrey Whitaker, Carl (Nancy) Whitaker, Bennett Whitaker, Leah Whitaker, Rachel Kretz; great-grandchildren, Shawna (Stephen) Strayer, Ashley (Allan) Riggie, Amy (Jeff) Lombardi, Kyle Kretz; great-great grandchildren, Brylie Strayer, Abigail Riggie, Caleb Riggie, Ezra Lombardi and her special companion, Shitzu Dudley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, siblings; Ernest, Allen, Irene, and her grandson-in-law Robert Kretz. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to her care giver, Sally Taylor, and the staff at A Stay at Home Health Care for the excellent care she received. Friends are invited to visit on Friday September 1, 2017, from 2:00-8:00pm at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. Visitation will begin at 10:00am on Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4030 Douglas Rd., where funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Aldersgate United Methodist Church’s Music Ministry.
