George R Graham

July 26, 2008

GRAHAM George Russel "Bud" George Russel "Bud" Graham went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, July 26, 2008. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his family, including his wife of 62 years, two of his daughters, their husbands and his son. George was born on February 14, 1920, to George Turner and Laurette May (Smith) Graham. He was one of five siblings, including sisters, Carrie (Les) Rittner, Lucille (Clay) Geordt and Barbara (Harry) Butler. He had one brother, Robert (Margaret) Graham. After graduating from Blissfield High School, he joined the service where he served with the 183rd Signal Corps in North Africa and Italy during World War II. George worked for Ohio Bell for 38 years and retired in 1983 to enjoy his grandchildren and his hobbies. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model airplanes, model railroading, camping and fishing. He was also an avid woodworker who made cabinets for his home and doll cribs for his granddaughters. George served for a time as President of the Communication Workers of America, Local 12. A member of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1942, he served as President of his Sunday school class, worked in the church's sound room and ushered. Although he could not hit any of the right notes, he always enjoyed singing hymns in the church. George was preceded in death by one of his sons, Kenneth Dana Graham. He is survived by his loving wife, Ivy Lucile (Karow) Graham and by his children, Janet (James) Wells, Lauretta (Kenneth) Moon, Shirley (Gene) Rice, and Donald (Denise) Graham. He left behind 8 grandchildren and 26 great-grand-children. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, from 2-8 p.m. at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
