Drescher Herbert A. ??? Herbert A. Drescher passed away at 3:20am Monday July 30, 2007 at Kingston of Sylvania.? He was born in Chemnitz, Germany on August 6, 1915.? After finishing an apprenticeship in machine tool design, he worked for Junkers Aircraft Company as an airframe designer.? In 1938, he was drafted into the German Air Force and actively flew with the Edelweiss Stuka Squadron KG51 for the duration of World War II.? In May 1940 he married Mathilde Weegmann in Duerrmenz/Muehlacker, Germany and 50 years later celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in the same church, which was filled to capacity with friends and neighbors. ??? In 1953, he brought his family to Toledo, Ohio, where he worked for City Machine & Tool (Sheller Globe) until his retirement in 1980.? He was an active member of the Toledo Schwaben Verein since 1954 and was active in the German American Festival Society.? Other memberships included the GAF Retirees, Sylvania Pyramid Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine, Toledo Lions Club, and Sylvania Moose Lodge.? He enjoyed fishing and gardening. ??? He was preceded in death by his wife and 8 brothers and sisters.? Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Wolfgang and Lynne M. Drescher of Ottawa Lake, Michigan; four grandchildren, Christine M. (Scott) Barnes, Erich W. (Amy) Drescher, Alexander S. (Michelle) Drescher; and Nikolaus A. Drescher; and two great grandchildren, Alexandra and Mia Barnes. ??? The family is especially thankful for all the services rendered by Dr. Bruce Hillard, the staff at Kingston Residences of Sylvania, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. ??? Friends are invited to visit from 2:00 to 5:00pm Saturday August 4, 2007 in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home 3000 Sylvania Avenue where funeral services will commence at 5:00pm.? The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Herbert A. Drescher Scholarship Fund with the Toledo Schwaben Verein.?
