Jim Manders

Jim died peacefully in the Palliative Care unit of St. Vincent's hospital on Sunday, November 23, 2008. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who cherished him for his great love, his compassion, and his tremendous sense of humor! His gift of wit was inherited from his father and we always knew he would have a sagacious comment on any topic. His oft repeated "Stop the world! I want to get off!" was realized Sunday evening when, in a moment of complete and gentle silence, he slipped away to join his parents, Mary Ruth and Edward, his older brother Robert, and many other family members and friends who preceded him. He is survived by his children Jacquelyn (Robert) Schladetsch who was his loving caregiver and best friend; Charles (Cynthia) and their five children; Kenneth; their mother, Kathleen, and siblings Jeannette (Nicholas) Weber, Marjorie (Gregory) Grime, Sister Mary Jaculin, SND, Thomas (Judith), and a host of friends. For more than 30 years Jim was very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 197, serving in a variety of positions on both the state and local level. He enjoyed NASCAR races, a wide variety of other sports, and, in his younger days, often entertained us with his musical skill and repertoire on the organ. The family would like to thank the staff in the Emergency room and in the Palliative Care unit for their care of Jim and support of his family. You are wonderful and have our grateful prayers. We would also like to thank those who so lovingly cared for his daily needs during his months at Harborside of Sylvania. Family and friends will gather on Sunday, November 30th, from 2:00 - 9:00 P.M. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. where an Eagles service will begin at 7:00PM. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church on Monday, December 1st at 11:00 A.M. with Father P. Martin Donnelly and Father Robert Reinhart as Celebrants.
