John R. Badhorn

July 5, 1925 - May 20, 2016

John Richard Badhorn, age 90, passed away Friday May 20, 2016. He was born July 5, 1925 to Harry John and Marie (Erard) Badhorn in Toledo. John was a member of the 1943 graduating class of Central Catholic High School. He is a veteran of World War II having enlisted in the United States Army in 1944. During the war he served in France, Germany, and the Philippines, as well as, in Japan and the Panama Canal post war. His service earned him the Army Good Conduct, EAME, and Army of Occupation medals. John retired as a mechanical engineer from Schindler Elevator (Haughton) in 1988 after 37 years of dedicated service. Golf and fishing were activities he enjoyed well into retirement. He loved his volunteer work in the Manor House at Wildwood Preserve Metropark. John was an accomplished carpenter finishing several rooms in the family home. As well, he was an avid gardener producing a bounty of tomatoes, peppers, and raspberries for many summers. John is survived by his children Larry Badhorn, Barbara Schneider, Ellen Costanzo, Jennifer Bowerbank, John Badhorn Jr., and Thomas Ohmer; Six grandchildren Amy Badhorn, Sam Costanzo, Lucas Costanzo, Leah Bowerbank, Malia Ohmer and Taya Ohmer; and sister Patricia Macey. Friends are invited to visit from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, May 23 in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Avenue. A prayer ceremony and celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, May 24 at the funeral home followed by internment at Resurrection Cemetery at 5725 Hill Ave. John requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NW Ohio or the Toledo Area Metroparks. Special thanks to the Oakleaf Village staff and the Senior Independence Hospice of Greater Toledo for the exceptional care given to John.
