Lisa M. Lucilio

September 15, 1961 - March 5, 2022

On March 5, 2022, Heaven gained a beautiful soul as Lisa Marie Lucilio, age 60, passed away peacefully with family by her side. While she will be sorely missed, we are comforted knowing she is at peace with God. Lisa was born on September 15, 1961 to Nicola Sr. and Alice Lucilio. Besides her parents, Lisa is survived by her siblings Joe (Jessica) Lucilio, Mary LaFleur, and Jonathan Lucilio; sister-in-law Connie Lucilio; nephews Alfred IV (Haely Enot) LaFleur, Joshua (Alicia Bosnakovic) LaFleur, and Ryan LaFleur; great niece and nephew Ellie and Enzo LaFleur; and best friend Marcia (Ron) Miller. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, friends, and students. Lisa was preceded in death by her grandparents, her brother Nicola (Nick) Lucilio Jr., and her brother-in-law Alfred LaFleur III. Lisa graduated from North Canton Hoover High School in 1979. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Rhetoric and Communication from Kent State University in 1983, her Teaching Certificate from Walsh University in 1984, her Masters of Education Degree in Secondary Education from Bowling Green State University in 1989, and her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Toledo in 2005. Lisa, or “Dr. L” as she was better known by her students, taught at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio for 37 years. Lisa was fiercely independent and private, free-spirited, and fun-loving. She possessed an innocence that saw the best in people and the world and a simplicity that found deep meaning and enjoyment in everyday life. Lisa was deeply committed to the right-minded formation and empowerment of women. She created a Women’s Studies course at Notre Dame Academy, which she taught for many years. She advanced the pursuit of learning, reveled in the classroom dialectic, and believed deeply in the transformative power of learning in our lives. In her day, she also coached track and shot put and was involved in directing theater. Lisa was known for asking everyone endless questions and the 45-minute goodbye. She was generous in spirit but lived as a minimalist – we teased her that her towels, bed sheets, and toilet paper were of the same ply. Lisa loved to exchange stories, especially about her family, and was genuinely interested in others. She and “Puppy” were best buddies. Lisa enjoyed mentoring, reading, writing, spending time with friends and family, a good Italian meal, and an occasional “beer and shot of Jack.” She was devoted to her parents and family. Her nephews, great niece, and great nephew brought her great joy. Lisa’s family would like to thank the staff, especially the ICU staff, at Mercy Health St. Anne Hospital in Toledo, Ohio for their care and guidance and making Lisa’s final days as comfortable as possible. Arrangements include a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul Church, 241 S. Main Street, North Canton, Ohio 44720 on March 28, 2022 at 10:00AM immediately followed by a reception in the Crystal Room at La Pizzaria, 3656 Dressler Rd NW, Canton, Ohio 44718. We hope those that attend the funeral will join us at the reception. Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio will be hosting a Celebration of Life at a pending date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Dr. Lisa Lucilio Endowed Scholarship at Notre Dame Academy, click here.
