February 18, 1937 - November 4, 2013
Dionyssiou MaryAnn MaryAnn, 76, aka “Mrs. Hot Dog” and “Yia Yia” went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4, 2013 surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with diabetes. She was born in Toledo Ohio on February 18, 1937 to Helen and Lawrence Cummins. MaryAnn graduated from DeVilbiss High School and the Cincinnati Bible Seminary majoring in Art and Music. She met the love of her life, Harry, “Mr. Hotdog” of Rudy's Hot Dog. They married in 1959 and recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Together they raised two wonderful boys Andy and Phillip. MaryAnn's first love was her family. Her second love was volunteering and fund raising for multiple organizations. Flower Hospital was a grateful recipient of MaryAnn's endless volunteer services. She was an honorary volunteer member for over 30 years and past President of the Auxiliary. Other volunteer work included the Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and Boulevard Church of Christ where she was a member of the choir and an organist. She was also a past president of Sama Gamma Sorority, Quest Garden Club and past President of Toledo Garden Forum. MaryAnn was Chair Person of numerous fund- raising events such as Moon Flower Ball and spent countless hours for many great causes. MaryAnn's faith was central to her life. She was baptized and raised at Boulevard Church of Christ and later converted to the Orthodox faith to join her family at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. We anticipate seeing MaryAnn with “tinted blue angel wings” and volunteering at many heavenly functions! Traveling was one of MaryAnn's greatest loves, touring the world and strengthening her faith at the Holy Land. MaryAnn and Harry frequented the Caribbean and Pacific Islands with family. Later in life they found their new paradise in life at Devil's Lake Michigan where their cottage doors were always open and the food was plentiful at traditional holiday cookouts. MaryAnn loved to take pontoon rides around the lake with family and friends and especially her grandchildren. The “Dionyssiou Greek Olympics” became a favorite Labor Day family tradition. We will miss her larger than life presence and her love of life. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Harry, sons Andy (Shelly), Phillip (Linda), grandchildren Justin, Eric, Dayna and Lauren. Brother Lowell (Rina) and numerous relatives and friends. Maryann will also be deeply missed by her cat “Chinchilla.” The family is deeply grateful to the Flower Hospital and Hickman Center staff and doctors for their love and care of MaryAnn. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in MaryAnn's memory are asked to consider the Hickman Center, Flower Hospital Auxiliary or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The family will receive guests at Ansberg-West Funeral Home from 3-8pm Thursday, November 7, 2013 with Trisagion prayer services at 7 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Interment at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, Ohio. Makaria luncheon will follow interment at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
