Merrily Angeline (Grana) Jones
September 22, 1942 - March 2, 2022
It is with tremendous love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Merrily Angeline (Grana) Jones, on March 2nd, 2022, at her home, in Maumee, Ohio. Merrily was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1942, to Daniel Grana and Joan Moore. She spent much of her childhood growing up between Toledo, and Findlay and everyone in her family knew her as “Snooks or Snooky.” Merrily was a proud 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School and remained a dedicated alumnus and supporter of CCHS Fighting Irish football. In 1964, Merrily married her high school sweetheart, Gary Jones. Their love brought their daughter Traci, and then son Gary Jr. into this world. Merrily was a dedicated wife, and mother, who also established herself as a skilled Executive Administrative Secretary, for many years with Tyco Simplex Grinnell. Merrily and Gary shared 26 years together as husband and wife, until Gary’s unexpected death, in 1990. Merrily loved to travel and did so across much of the United States. Her travels also took her to Mexico, and Europe. Over the years, her most frequent trips were to Florida to visit with family. On a local level Merrily loved spending time with her family and her friends. If you were out on the town with Merrily, you soon realized just how many friends she made throughout her life. No matter where Merrily went, she always ran into someone she knew…, and they knew her too. Merrily also enjoyed watching sports. On Friday evenings, in the fall, Merrily enjoyed attending local high school football games. In years past, while Traci and Gary attended Whitmer High School, she could be seen attending games at Whitmer Memorial Stadium. In most recent years, you would find Merrily attending Whiteford High School football games, with her nieces, to watch her three great-nephews play under the Friday night lights, in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Most recently Merrily enjoyed watching her great grandson learn to skate and to play hockey. And that is what defined what was truly important to Merrily, her love for family, and friends. Merrily is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Dorothy Grana, Joan and Roy Morgan; and her best childhood friend, Patricia Szakovits. She is survived by her daughter, Traci Picknell (Chris); her son, Gary Jr.; five grandchildren, Tarah Magner (Michael), Anthony Picknell, Kelsey Picknell, Evan Jones; and two great grandchildren, Camden, and Peyton Magner. Merrily is also survived by her brothers, Daniel Grana (Stephanie), and David Grana (Debbie); her sister, Melissa Patrylo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless loving friends. The celebration of Merrily’s life will be honored with a visitation on Monday, March 7, 2022, from 2-8 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43613. The funeral service for Merrily will be held the following day on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, located at 104 W. Broadway Street, Maumee, Ohio 43537. Based on Merrily’s love and compassion for animals, donations may be made in her name and memory to: Toledo Humane Society Animal Shelter, 827 Illinois Avenue, Maumee, Ohio 43537.
