Nancy Proestou

September 14, 1922 - January 1, 2011

Nancy (Nafsika) Proestou, a resident of Toledo, went to meet the Lord on January 1, 2011 following a brief illness with cancer. Born September 14, 1922 in Sysklipos, Cyprus, Nancy immigrated to the United States with her family in 1968. In 1970, she began her long career as a seamstress. She was employed by Bridal Isle, by Lion Store at the Westgate Shopping Center and the Franklin Park Mall, and then by Dillards, until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved to travel. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo, the Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope and the Young at Heart organizations at the Cathedral. She volunteered endlessly her many talents to the Church. She is survived by her sons Kypros (Yiota) Proestos of Toledo, Andreas (Tasoulla) Proestou of Maumee, daughters Toulla (Andreas) Constantinou of Chicago, Illinois, and Paula (Bill) Slocum of Newark, Ohio, brothers Andreas (Joan) Dionyssiou of Toledo, Harry (Mary Ann) Dionyssiou of Toledo, and Sam Dionyssiou of Toledo, grandchildren, Maria, Dina, Christine, Harry Dean, Yanna, Dean Alex and William, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Costas Proestou, and sisters Cassiani Dionyssiou and Melpomeni Panteli. The family will receive friends at Ansberg West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Avenue, Tuesday, January 4 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Trisagion at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 Superior Street, at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, with interment at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio. Rev. Aristotle Damaskos, Cathedral Dean, and Rev. Chris Hadgigeorge will be officiating. Special thanks to Nancy's many friends and to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their help during her final days.
