December 8, 1930 - November 8, 2021
It was a sunny Monday morning, November 8, 2021, after several years with a serious illness, the beautiful PHYLLIS MONICA (AUMILLER) MADDEN passed on with her loving daughters by her side. Mom was one month shy of her 91st birthday. Phyllis was born December 8, 1930 (Immaculate Conception Day) in her Bronson Street home to Marie (Mary Majewski) and Joseph Aumiller. Phyllis was the youngest daughter of her family of six. Phyllis attended St. Hedwig Catholic School/Church and was a graduate of Woodward High School. She started her career as a teller at the Toledo Trust Bank until she married the love of her life of 41 years, James Patrick Madden. Phyllis chose to be a wife and stay-at-home mother, dedicating all her years by loving and raising her six daughters, one son and many family pets. Our family belongs to Blessed Sacrament Parish. Phyllis embraced herself around him and her children, playing games, dancing to her favorite music and watching TV shows. Phyllis and Jim travelled in their own Cessna and Mooney airplanes. They golfed together and were members at Byrnwyck/Brandywine Country Club for many years, competing in the Galcutta and placed multiple times. As years went on, she bowled and golfed with her children. Her love for family grew as Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren entered her world. She continued her generosity and gave selfless hours of her time by babysitting, going to their school activities, including travelling out of town to many events. Phyllis kept a meticulous home, inside and out. Her flower gardens were stunning with a variety of flowers and vibrant colors. Our mom was a fantastic cook, notable for her Sunday roast beef dinners, variety of soup, spaghetti, Christmas cookies, lemon meringue and apple pies. The first hobby she enjoyed was sewing, which she learned at a young age. Phyllis sewed many of her own dresses as a younger woman to fit her petite figure and 18” waist. Phyllis continued sewing for her children and dolls. She had a lifelong love for Barbie dolls. They were displayed until the day she passed. Another lifelong passion was photography. Her favorite picture subjects were of people and things she loved. Phyllis had taken pictures since her teenage years. Her pictures were turned in to over 300 photo story albums, capturing each significant life event. Along with her photos, Phyllis wrote journals on each day of her life, regardless if it was an ordinary or special day. Her favorite hobby was her joy of crocheting, making over 80 afghans. Phyllis loved creating different color designs with each person in mind. All these acts of love will give us a lifetime of wonderful memories. Left to cherish her memories are her beloved children, Valerie (Michael) Wagner, Deborah (Robert) Bollin, Lynne Melchior, Patrick James Madden (caregiver Sonia), Marcia (Michael) Mason, Janet Roach (Shawn Vernier) and Ellen Madden (Greg Maraugha); Grandchildren Kristina (Tennail) Williams, Michael (Courtney) Mason, Jessica (Matthew) Smith, Bruce (Nicole) Taberner, Stephanie Mason, Angela Bollin, Brittany Bollin, Paul Mason, Harold Bollin, Ciera Madden, Chelsie Madden, Rachel (Clint) Bankes, and Matthew (Sarah) Melchior; Great-Grandchildren, Killian, Colton, Carter, Madden, Evan, Charlotte B, Rori, Olive and Jonah. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Madden; parents, Joseph and Mary Aumiller; siblings Joseph, Malven Aumiller and Lucille Egan. We would like to thank the staff at Genacross Lutheran Wolf Creek Nursing Home for their compassion and care. Family and friends may visit Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 3:00pm -8:00pm, where a scripture service will be held at 7:00pm.
