Maj. Richard E. Amstutz, (Ret), 65, of Plantation, FL and formerly of Toledo, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008. Dick was born January 7, 1943, in Toledo and was the son of Carl and Loretta Amstutz. He was a Central Catholic High School graduate, where he was All City in football and is in the Central Catholic Hall of Fame, with the 1960 football team that was City League champs. Dick was a 1966 graduate of the University of Toledo. He was commissioned as an Army Officer and became an Airborne Ranger.. Dick proudly served in Viet Nam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from the Army after serving honorably for 22 years. One of Dicks' proudest moments came when he pinned his son, Erik's wings on, after Erik was commissioned as an officer. Dick was a great athlete and a scratch golfer Survivors include his wife, Teresa; sons, James Amstutz and Lt. Erik (Robin) Amstutz, serving in Afghanistan; daughter, Michelle (Ryan) Anderson; granddaughter, Lillian; step-children, Luis, Humberto and Margui; his sister, Marilou Kasparian and brothers, Joseph (Julie), James (Christina) and Michael (Joyce) Amstutz. Dick was preceded in death by his parents. Friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral, 3000 Sylvania Avenue. Prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, from the funeral home, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m., in Christ the King Catholic Church. Father William Rose will officiate. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Catholic High School.
