Rita Maria (Maier) Sartor passed away at Sunset House on February 20, 2022 of natural causes. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and dedicated homemaker, who enjoyed being with family. Rita was born on December 4, 1931, in Batavia, New York to Rudolf Maier and Elizabeth Karius. She attended St. Agnes Grade School and was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, Class of 1949. After spending some time in Germany studying at the University of Freiburg, Rita graduated from Mary Manse College in the Class of 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Rita was a longtime member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church. She served on their Parish Counsel and participated in several volunteer activities, including as an Associate with the Ursuline Sisters and as a KCette for the Knights of Columbus West Toledo Council, and a supporter of other causes. Rita worked for 9 years in many capacities at their campground in eastern Ohio, before moving back to Toledo and working as a clerk at the Kent Branch of the Toledo Lucas County Library, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed bowling on several leagues, music, gardening, playing games and maintaining her alumni contact. Rita made many friends and acquaintances through her activities and residences but especially cherished the time living at West Park Place with Anne Freeland, her longtime friend and roommate there. Left to cherish Rita’s memory are her 9 children: Anita (Lee, deceased) Sitler, Denise (Keith) Brigode, Daniel (Margaret) Sartor, Carl (Patti) Sartor, Michael (Linda) Sartor, LaDonna (David) Gaydosh, Steven (Birgit) Sartor, Tony and Terry Sartor; and 28 Grandchildren: Ericka (Greg) Bierer, Andrea Sitler, Nicholas Brigode, Jessica Sartor, Robert (Jennifer) Sitler, Andrew (Catherine) Gaydosh, Dawn Hallock, Christopher (Crystal) Gaydosh, Benedikt Sartor, Katherine (Nathan) Scott, William (Colleen Kauth) Brigode, Leann (Geoff) Davis, Elizabeth (Christopher) Foeckler, Mary (Peter) Torrey, Anthony Sartor, James Sartor, Charles (Samantha) Brigode, Dennis Sartor, Matthew (Kasey) Gaydosh, Bernadette Sartor, Dustin Sartor, Felicia (Matthew) Sanchez, Melanie Sartor, Matthew Sartor, Aaron Sartor, Melinda Sartor, Daniel (Caitlyn) Sartor, Patrick Sartor. Rita was “Oma” to 28 great-grandchildren and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Trudy Morone, and brother Rudi (Jenny) Maier. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Eugene J. Sartor, Jr., her sister and brother-in-law, Tanya and Andy Banachowski, brother-in-law, Ralph Morone, as well as several Sartor in-laws. Friends and Family are invited to visit on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Family will greet funeral guests at 10:00 AM at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am, celebrated by Father Michael Geiger. Mass will be available via Livestream by clicking here. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at the Ursuline Center, Sunset House, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their care for Rita in the past two years.
