Ruth J. Baumann

February 13, 1938 - March 1, 2022

Ruth J. Baumann, 84, passed away on March 1, 2022 in Bridge Hospice, Bowling Green, Ohio. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 13, 1938 to August and Naomi (Farber) Baumann. Ruth graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1956, Bowling Green State University with Bachelors Degree in 1960, and University of Michigan With Masters of Social Work in 1966. Ruth became a Licensed Independent Social worker. Ruth was employed as a Caseworker in the Outpatient Department at Toledo State Hospital, a Probation Counselor, a Probation Casework Supervisor, and Casework Supervisor at the Department Director of Family Services. She retired in1990. She was a member of the Lucas County Correctional Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers and Toledo Business and Professional Women's Club. She served as member of Child Abuse Prevention Center Board, consultant to the Board of The Bethany House and did volunteer work with United Way, and Big Brothers and Sisters. Some of her favorite activities included summer vacations at Devil's Lake with her good friend, Shirley Stretchbery, and her children for over 20 years. A highlight was a trip to Germany and Switzerland with Shirley (not a tour), where they had to find their own lodging and meals and learn how to use the great Eurorail system. It was for 22 days, each carrying a 21 inch suitcase. They met relatives and saw the family home where her father lived as a young boy in Bergstadt, Germany. Others favorite activities included bowling, reading, golf and just having good times. Another good friend was Joanne (Tom) Shapler and they met at age 4. They enjoyed countless great times together and Joanne's husband had to put up with their shenanigans for years. Day tripping and having garage sales were other fun activities. Ruth was preceded by her brother, James L Baumann, Toledo; and sister, Judith Powell Webb, Corunna, Michigan. Special thanks are extended to the memory care staff of Brookdale Senior Care Center in Bowling Green for the excellent care they provided over the last year. Per her wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ansberg- West Funeral Directors, 419-472-7633. Her cremains will be placed in the scattering pond at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to The Bethany House or Hospice of Northwest Ohio or donor's choice.
