Alan Robert Koester

Alan Robert Koester, 75, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026. Alan was born on April 6, 1951, and was the beloved son of Henry and Dorothy (Scott) Koester. Being the youngest of five children shaped his voice and spirit and his true Aries nature, Alan met the world with fire and determination all his own. Alan attended DeVilbiss High School and graduated in 1969. Soon after high school, Alan bravely answered the call to service in the United States Army and although brief his experience left a lasting sense of pride and purpose. Passionate about serving others, Alan pursued nursing school at Owens Community College. It was there that he not only deepened his sense of purpose, but also met the love of his life, Sandra Koester (Fell), a connection that became one of Alan's greatest blessings. Upon college completion, Alan went on to begin his career at St Vincent's Hospital in the Peri-Vascular Unit as a Registered Nurse, before later accepting a position with the State of Ohio as a Healthcare Facility Inspector, in which he held until his retirement. Alan was member of the Masonic Brotherhood. He was initiated on December 28, 2025, passed on January 18, 2026, and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on February 15, 2026. Alan's love for animals, quiet generosity to those in need and his signature " Old Man" humor were just a few of the qualities that made him so dearly loved. Alan found joy in some of life's simple pleasures, such as..watching historical documentaries, lounging at the pool, grilling out and spending quality time with his family. Alan is survived by his children, Brad (DeAnna) McDonald, Jason (Amy) McDonald and Erin (Anastacio) Gilbert; his Grandchild, Christopher, Tristan, Kaylee, Liam, Andrea, Patrick, Sarah and Pryce; his Great Grandchildren, Colin, Teagan, Amelia, Avery, Rory and Ronnie; his Sister, Kathy (Arlen) Miller; and his Brother, Larry (Karen) Koester. Alan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Koester (Fell); his parents, Henry and Dorothy (Scott) Koester; his brother, Karl (Sandy) Koester; and his sister, Sue (Gary) Ames. A memorial service will be held at Ansberg-West Funeral Home on Monday, May 11, 2026. The family will receive visitors from 11am to 1 pm, the service will begin promptly at 1pm .
