Chester John Szymanski

Loving husband, dad, and dzia. Chet Szymanski passed away at home October 25, 2010. He was born May 29, 1932, to Walter and Leocadia Szymanski. Chet graduated from Woodward High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, he was stationed at Fort Myers, Va. He worked at Rossford Ordinance Depot, and the City of Toledo, retiring as supervisor from the Municipal Garage in 1989. He met the love of his life, Betty Knapp, the night before he left for the service. Upon his return, they married August 4, 1956, and soon to follow came his 4 daughters. Over the years, Chet and Betty enjoyed holidays, bus trips with the seniors, and annual family vacations filled with fun, food, fishing, …and more food! Chet had a knack for finding a fish fry, if it was out there, he would find it. Chet was also a member of the FOE #197, Conn-Weissenberger Post 587, KWV, and PACT. Chet is survived by his dear wife of 54 years, Betty. Also surviving are his daughters Sheryl Servis, LuAnn (George) Simcox, Bonnie (Jerry) Ervin, Cathy (Fiancé Joe) Lehman. Grandchildren include Jackie (Jason) McCarty, Ryan Villhauer, Katie and Jenny Simcox, Michael and Christopher Ervin, Emily (Wes) Amerson, Bailey (Fiancé Kyle) and Will Lehman. And the 2 that put a sparkle in his eye are his great-grandchildren, Jaslyn McCarty and Nathan Amerson along with step-grandchildren, Larry Servis and Tiffany McCarty. He is also survived by sisters, Lottie Jozwiak, Irene (Andy) Wisniewski and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, and sons-in-law Bill Servis and Brian Lehman. Friends are invited to visit from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, where the Korean War Veterans will conduct their services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m., from the funeral home. Father William Rose will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Dad taught us how important family was by example. Thank you, dad, for the legacy of love, generosity, determination and zeal for life that will carry down through the generations…and yes, we will remember to lock our doors and call when we get home. “Love you B.” “Love you too, honey.”
