Christine L. Reneger

Christine Lee (Bates) Reneger passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 2, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, at age 73. Chris was born on March 23, 1950, to Leland and Charlotte Bates of Holland, Ohio, and was later Big Sister to David and Duane. Christine graduated from Springfield High School in 1968, where she met the love of her life, John Reneger. John and Christine were married on August 16, 1969, and in 1972 built their home in Toledo, where they lived happily for 52 years, raising their family. Christine loved to spend time at the family lake house, and frequently welcomed a houseful of family and friends. For many years, she hosted a get-together on the lake to celebrate and connect with multiple generations of family. Christine devoted her professional life to the Taylor Automotive Group for 45 years, where she nurtured numerous lasting friendships. From 1993 through the present, she served as co-owner of the Toledo Cherokee Hockey Team. Chris dedicated countless hours to providing opportunities for young men to play the game that she loved. Aside from hockey, Christine was an avid bowler for many years, participating in leagues and tournaments. Love for both of these hobbies has passed down to her children and grandchildren. Christine is survived in death by her husband, John Reneger, her daughter Angela (Israel) Montemayor, son, Jason (Stephanie) Reneger, 5 grandchildren: Elijah Reneger, Domenic Montemayor, Sedona Reneger (Madison Roop), Isabel Montemayor, and Avery Reneger, and brothers David (Deborah) Bates and Duane Bates. Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Charlotte Bates, parents-in-law, Clarence and Ruth Reneger, sister-in-law, Judi Morrison, and sister-in-law, Terri Bates. Friends and family are invited to visit at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. Memorial service will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, OH.
