Hazel K. Sanecki

Hazel K. Sanecki, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Orchard Villa Nursing Facility, after a lengthy illness. Born in Richmond, VA, Hazel was proud of her family heritage, that included relative's who served with honor during the Civil War and a great-great-grandmother, who was the aunt of America's third president, Thomas Jefferson. It was in Virginia, at Camp Lee, where she met her husband John, while he was stationed there during WWII. Upon his return from the war, they were married, and moved to Toledo in 1946. Here they started a family, built a home and made their life together. Hazel was a homemaker most of her life and was employed by LaSalle's, working at the downtown Toledo store, until it closed. She enjoyed retirement together with her husband John, spending the winter months in Margate, FL, a tradition she continued until illness prevented her from going. Hazel enjoyed her sports as well. She enjoyed the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit Tigers, Toledo Rockets and the Miami Heat. She never passed on a chance to attend in person. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John, who passed away in 1994. She is survived by her children, Helen (Chuck) Swinghammer, Penny Sanecki, Jay Sanecki, Wade Sanecki and Chuck (Georgina) Sanecki; grandchildren, Jonathan (Marissa) Swinghammer, William Swinghammer, Jason Sanecki, Caroline Sanecki, Kasey Sanecki and Ryan Sanecki and her great-granddaughter, Alexandra Swinghammer. Friends are invited to visit from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, (between Douglas and Secor Roads). Prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday, from the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Gesu Church. Father James F. Cryan, OSFS, will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Hazel's name, be made to The Toledo Zoo. Hazel loved the Toledo Zoo dearly and volunteered countless hours. She was a member for nearly 50 years. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the W.W.
