Mary Katherine Westrick

Mary Katherine “Mary Kay”, “Kay” Westrick, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025, surrounded by her children. Mary Kay was born on January 17, 1933 in St. Augustine, Florida. After graduating as valedictorian of the 1951 class at St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine, she worked for a year to save money before moving to Toledo, Ohio where she attended Mary Manse College. She interrupted her studies to work as a secretary at General Motors before marrying Leonard William “Bill” Westrick of Toledo in a beautiful ceremony at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine on August 2, 1958. Following their wedding, they returned to Toledo and raised six children. After the children were older, Kay enrolled at the University of Toledo where she earned an Associate of Applied Science in plastic/chemical technology in 1980. She then worked as a lab technician at Toledo hospital, retiring in 1995. She loved reading, especially poetry, and rock collecting with her grandchildren. Mary Kay is survived by her six children, Charles “Chuck” (Sue) Westrick, Katherine “Kathy” (Mark) Scott, Lawrence “Larry” Westrick, Elaine (Dave) Brohard, Paul (Hitomi) Westrick, and Rose (John) Scouten; grandchildren Elisha Westrick, Matthew (Allison) Westrick, Sam Westrick, Sarah Westrick, Charles (Odalys) Brohard, Daniel Brohard, Ken Westrick, Andrew (Sarah) Scouten, Cassie Scouten, and Lucia Scouten; her sister Elizabeth J. Brock and brother-in-law, Eric J. Brock; sisters-in-law, Joan Minning, Alice Westrick, and Kathie Westrick; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Charles Henry “Charley” and Annie Laurie Sanchez; her sister Shirley Browning; and her brother, Charles Sanchez Jr. Visitation at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home at 3000 Sylvania Ave, Toledo Ohio will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. There will be a rosary at approximately 4:00 pm, and a prayer service starting at 7:00 pm. The funeral liturgy will be at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4555 North Haven, Toledo, Ohio on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 10:30 am. Visitation at the back of the church will be from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Following the Mass, the Rite of Committal will be held inside the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery. A luncheon will follow. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers at West Park Place/Glass Peaks Senior Living and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
